ROOTS OF A DREAM

Fifteen years of searching. Three generations of strength. One purpose discovered.

The Cherish Collective began establishing its roots long before I consciously realised I was tending to them.

For more than fifteen years, this vision remained a soft whisper in the background of my existence. I felt a profound urge to construct something of substance and permanence, though I didn’t fully understand the origins of that drive until I began tracing the steps of the women who came before me.

I am the daughter and granddaughter of women who perfected the skill of creating from scarcity. They were women who rebuilt their lives after immense hardship and who always managed to find beauty and potential in the most unexpected places.

My grandmother’s life story is the perfect embodiment of this spirit. Living as a mixed-race woman in Glencoe, KZN, she encountered a time when her daughters, including my mother, needed school uniforms that were simply unavailable. In response, she purchased raw fabric and hand-stitched them herself. What began as a mother solving a practical need for her children blossomed into a lasting legacy; those uniforms eventually set the official standard for the school and were adopted by surrounding institutions.

I only discovered this chapter of my family history quite recently. Yet, the moment it was shared with me, I felt a powerful sense of recognition.

My grandmother looked at a bolt of cloth and saw opportunity, crafting something that would outlive the immediate necessity. That creative instinct has clearly woven itself through our entire bloodline.

My mother manifested this same resilience in her unique way. Though she was a trained nurse, she chose to become a stay-at-home mother, yet when our family faced challenges, she found innovative ways to rebuild our world. She baked, she provided childcare, and she built small businesses. She nurtured beauty even when the surroundings offered none. From her, I learned that strength isn't always a spectacle. Sometimes, it is the quiet determination of rising each morning to do what is required. It is the bravery to start over. And as she always reminded me, it is the dignity found in dressing up, holding your head high, and choosing to show up for your life.

These women shaped my worldview. They proved that what appears discarded, broken, or forgotten never truly loses its value. It is simply waiting for a visionary to see what it could eventually become.

This core belief is the heartbeat of The Cherish Collective.

Our products begin with reclaimed materials. Items that have already lived a full history. Through meticulous craftsmanship and intentional focus, we transform these elements into limited-edition heirloom desk accessories designed to be treasured for decades. I see deep symbolism in this work, as the act of restoration has been the pulse of my family for generations.

However, The Cherish Collective is equally dedicated to the future.

In 2026, I reached a significant life junction. My daughter had just entered adulthood at 21, while my mother celebrated 77 years of wisdom and grace. Three generations of distinct women converged at this point, and within these milestones, the dream I had held for fifteen years finally found its true purpose.

I realised my goal wasn't just to manufacture objects; I wanted to build a bridge. I wanted to design something that honors our past while carving a path for those who follow. The Emergence Collection is the physical manifestation of that intention. The title is deeply personal, representing the idea that emerging isn’t about becoming a stranger, but about finally unveiling the essence that was present all along.

My own journey has been a testament to this.

As a mixed-race South African woman, I am a tapestry of several histories: Indian, Zulu, English, and South African. My family taught me never to hide these facets but to embrace them. That upbringing shaped how I lead, how I connect, and how I see others. It taught me that diversity is an incredible asset, that every individual deserves to be recognized, and that there is power in creating spaces where people can be their most authentic selves.

Throughout my professional career, my most fulfilling work has been supporting women-led enterprises and empowering women to occupy boardrooms with the absolute certainty that they belong there.

The Cherish Collective is an extension of that mission.

We commit twenty percent of our profits to supporting women as they rebuild their lives, with a vision of creating future employment through artisanal production. I do not intend for this business to simply serve an aesthetic function. I want the beauty we create to unlock tangible new opportunities for others.

My faith in Christ is the steady foundation for everything I build. It informs my perspective on grace, service, and the inherent value of every human soul. It is a constant reminder that our purpose is not measured by personal achievement, but by how well we steward what has been placed in our hands.

Then there is my daughter.

She represents the next generation: bold, empowered, and anchored in her values. She reminds me every day that strength and kindness can co-exist. When I look at her, I think about what we inherit, but more importantly, what we choose to pass forward. To me, legacy is not what we leave behind; it is what we sow within people.

Courage.

Purpose.

Beauty.

Community.

A reminder of their own dignity.

This is why 'Cherish' is the only name that fits.

To cherish is to recognize the true worth of something and treat it with the honor it deserves.

A person.

A narrative.

A piece of fabric.

A memory.

A connection.

A dream that waited fifteen years to finally take its first breath.

My grandmother took material and stitched a future for her children.

My mother showed me how to rise and restore.

My daughter proves why the legacy we plant matters.

Through The Cherish Collective, I am continuing that thread for the generations to come.

We reclaim. We restore. We create. We cherish.

Because what we protect, what we heal, and what we build with love creates the true legacy of our lives.
